Kathy Griffin

Kathleen Mary Griffin, the American comedian and actress, was born on 4th November 1960, at Illinois, U.S. She is the daughter of Mary Margaret “Maggie” Griffin, and John Patrick Griffin. She developed the passion of acting in her senior years. 

Her first appearance on-screen was as an extra for a Chicago White Sox commercial. She began performing stand-up comedy in 1980s in an improvisational comedy troupe called The Groundlings. Later, she got several chances in television to perform stand-up comedy. Her debut in television sitcom was as Susan Klein, in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Griffin identifies herself as an atheist. She has done controversial speech in several occasions, one was related to Jesus. It was during the Creative Arts Emmy Awards the she said, “Now, a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award that Jesus. He didn’t help me a bit. So all I can say is suck it, Jesus, this award is my God now!”

Similar to the controversies in religious matters, she has made statements in political cases too. She posted a video on her Instagram and Twitter accounts, in which U.S. president Donald Trump was criticised very badly. Various programs of Griffin got cancelled as a result of the post, on which she apologized later. She is a long-time critic of Sarah Palin and her family too. She has used the Palin family as a material for her comedy routines several times. 

She is a supporter of the LGBT community, and also supports same-sex marriage. Her mother Mary, is also an active supporter of the movement and has participated along with Griffin in several protests. She is a long-time supporter of the Aid for AIDS annual fundraiser program too. 

Who is she dating?

Griffin and her husband Matt Moline got divorced in 2006, and she mad accusations that he stole USD 72000 from her, on which the only reaction Moline made was that he is saddened by it. 

She started dating Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in 2007, and the couple confirmed about their relationship in February 2008. They appeared together in several occasions including the Humane Society of Silicon Valley Fur Ball on April 2008. Later in June 2008, they broke up. 

She has once admitted that she was in a relationship with her tour manager. In 2012, she started dating marketing executive Randy Bick, and got married on January 2020.

Griffin considers her profession itself as a hobby, and has reading and writing as other ones. She has published her autobiography named as Official Book Club Selection; A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin.

    • She was banned from several television shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and The View. 

    • She is an opponent of LASIK surgery, as she has gone partially blind due to a series of operations. 

    • Griffin was placed 17th on Oxygen’s ‘The 50 Funniest Women Alive’ in the year 2009.
