Phoebe Cates




Phoebe is an American actress, singer, and former career model. She is best known for her movies and television series such as Paradise, Private School, Baby Sister, Lace, Gremlins, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Date With An Angel, Bright Lights Big City, Shag, Heart of Dixie, I Love You To Death, Drop Dead Fred, Bodies Rest and Motion, Princess Caraboo, and The Aniversary Party. She has been trained with Robert Ravan, founder of the Actor's Circle New York.

Born in New York City, her family was among the insiders of television and Broadway production. She has a Russian, and Chinese-Filippino descent. Phoebe is a Jew. Her father Joseph Cates is a famous producer and director.

Phoebe hasn't spoken much about politics or ideologies. She is mostly frank about her sexuality and nude scenes. She has been quoted saying that if you have a good body, why not show it. She has also worked in plays at different theatres such as Broadway.

Phoebe was in a long relationship with Stavros Merjos and shared an apartment with him in Greenwich Village. In 1989 she was married to actor Kevin Kline who she met in an audition to the movie The Big Chill. They have two children.

She has her own boutique at New York's Madison Avenue called Blue Tree. This shows her entrepreneurial skills and passion for clothes and design. She has also worked as a teen model in the pages of "Seventeen". Cates was passionate about dancing and had even received a scholarship from School of American Ballet.

Rolling Stone described a feature of her movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High as "most memorable bikini-drop in cinema history".

She has given several nude scenes for movies.

Cates had taken a retirement from movies in 1994 to raise her children.
