Tom Hanks

Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, the American actor and filmmaker, was born on 9th July 1956, at California, U.S. He is the son of Janet Marylyn, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook. He attended the Great Lakes Theatre Festival in Cleveland as an intern, which later got stretched into a three-year experience.

His film debut was in the film He Knows You’re Alone (1980), and later did several television series. His first hit movie was the romantic comedy film Splash (1984), which was a surprise box office hit. He earned two consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for starring in Philadelphia (1993), and in Forrest Gump (1994). He did movies like Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002), The Post (2017) in collaboration with film director Steven Spielberg. 

His other notable films include Sleepless in Seattle, Apollo 13, Cast Away, Captain Phillips, Sully, and A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. He has given voice Sheriff Woody in the Toy Story film series. He has received two Academy Awards out of six nominations.

He has Portuguese and English ancestry. His family religious history is of Catholic and Mormon, and he has characterized himself as a “Bible –toting evangelical” for several years. He has defined his religious belief as a combination of various faiths, as he had the chance to mingle with various religions in his childhood days. 

He later joined the Greek Orthodox Church after marrying Rita Wilson in 1988.

Hanks is an open supporter of the Democratic Party for over a decade. He released a video detailing his support to Barack Obama in 2018, and also spoke highly of former Democratic presidents too. He has made donations to the party several times. As an activist, he has also teamed up with Michelle Obama to encourage individuals to register to vote.

Hanks married Samantha Lewes, the American actress in 1978. The couple had a son Colin and one daughter Elizabeth. They divorced after 11 years of married life in 1987. 

He met actress Rita Wilson during the filming of Bosom Buddies in 1981, and they got married in 1988. They have two sons, Chester Marlon, and Truman Theodore.

Hanks has one of the strangest hobbies among all the celebrities. He collects typewriters. He started his hobby of collecting typewriters around the Seventies, and has currently around 100 typewriters. He has developed an app named as the Hanx Writer App, and also has written a fictitious book about them.
