Paul Newman


Paul Newman was an American actor. Besides, he was also a director, producer, race car driver, Indy Car owner, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He was born on 26th January, 1925 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, United States. He died on 26th December, 2008 in Westport, Connecticut, United States. He starred in many movies such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Colour of Money, Somebody Up There Likes Me, Sweet Bird of Youth, Twilight, and The Drowning Pool, to mention only a few of them. He has been nominated and won several awards such as Academy Award, Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, Kennedy Center Honours, Jefferson Award, Cannes Film Festival Award, Berlin International Film Festival Award, and other honours and credits. 

Paul Newman Religion 

Newman was born to a Catholic mother and a Jewish father. His mother practiced the Christian Science religion. He claimed himself to be a Jew because he could closely identify to it and because it is more of a challenge. However, he was not religious and did not practice any religion. He was also connected to Unitarian Universalists but it seems he was closer to being an atheist or agnostic. He belongs to the Ashkenazi Jewish and Slovak ancestry.

Newman was always a democrat. He was very politically active. He was also in opposition to the Vietnam War in the late 60s and supported democrat Eugene McCarthy who was Lyndon B. Johnson's opponent. His protests against the Vietnam War made him number 19 on Richard Nixon's list of enemies. He also claimed himself to be a supporter of gay rights since he was a kid. Moreover, he suggested the idea of nuclear power to be the solution against global warming. Furthermore, he was mostly known for his huge contributions to charities. He opened a salad dressing company known as Newman's Own in 1982. He pledged to give away all the profits of his business to charities. He was a generous man. He donated to Catholic Relief Services to help refugees in Kosovo and also donated to Kenyon College. 

Who is he dating? 

He got married twice. He was first married to Jackie Witte from 1949 to 1958. They have two daughters together, Stephanie Newman and actress Susan Kendall Newman. They had a son, Scott Newman, who died in 1978 due to drug overdose. He then married American actress Joanne Woodward in 1958 after divorcing Jackie Witte. They were married until he passed away in 2008. They have three daughters together, Claire Olivia Newman and American artists Melissa Newman and Nell Newman. According to reports, he had an affair with American actress Nancy Bacon in the 1960s for about one and a half year. 

Paul Newman Hobbies 

Apart from acting, he was also into racing. He was always very fun loving and enthusiastic about automobile racing. He was both a race car driver and an owner of a racing team. He got interested in racing when he was preparing for a film called Winning in racing school. He also had a hobby of salad dressing.
