Colin Farrell


Colin James Farrell, the Irish actor was born on 31st May 1976, at Castleknock, Ireland. He is the son of Rita and Eamon Farrell, who was a football player and owner of a health food shop. He was inspired by the performance of Henry Thomas in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial movie, which moved him to tears. 

Farrell’s on-screen debut was through the BBC drama Ballykissangel in 1998. He also appeared in Falling for a Dancer, the 1999 show. He made his film debut through The War Zone, directional debut of English actor Tim Roth. His performance in the 2002-2003 films Phone Booth, The Recruit, and S.W.A.T. received wide political acclaim. These three films were great box office successes too. Another film of Farrell, which received world-wide recognition is Alexander, in which he portrayed the role of Alexander the Great. The film, which received positive reviews from most critics, was not well-received in the United States. 

Other notable roles that he has done includes those in Intermission, The New World, Ask the Dust, Dream, Horrible Bosses, Seven Psychopaths, and The Lobster.

Farrell describes himself as a non-religious person, but says that he is not an atheist. He says, “I don’t align myself with any particular religion. I tried very hard years ago to be an atheist. I do believe that there is something that is bigger than us.” He also believes that science and religion are two forces that can go hand in hand in the future.

He is an activist, who has joined other celebrities for the Special Olympics World Games in Shanghai, China. He is an official Ambassador of the Homeless World Cup, which encourages the homeless people to change their lives by playing football. He has also raised his voice for the campaign Stand Up, which is an anti-bullying campaign, organised by the LGBT youth organisation BeLong in 2012.

Farrell dated Amelia Warner, the English actress and singer in 2000, during the premiere of Quills. The couple dated till November 2001, and there were reports that they got married, which was later denied by Farrell himself. He was also related to Britney Spears, Playboy cover girl Nicole Narain, Josie Maran, Angelina Jolie, Maeve Quinlan, and Demi Moore. 

In 2003, Farrell and American model Kim Bordenave become parents of a son, who was named as James Padraig. He was in a relationship with an Irish medical student Muireann McDonnell from 2007 to 2008. He dated the British-American writer Emma Forrest for a year, about which she has described in her memoir Your Voice in My Head. 

Farrell has a second son born on October 2009, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus. The couple got separated in 2010.

The hobbies of Colin Farrell include reading books, listening to music, and also, he considers acting as his hobby. He is a great fan of soccer football, as it is the sport that he has been watching from childhood. 


Interesting Facts

    • Farrell was suspected for attempted murder by the police, when he reached Sydney as an 18 year old, as the police sketch looked remarkably like him. 

    • He was voted sixth in “World’s Sexiest Man” by the Company magazine.
