John Wayne

John Wayne is the screen name of Marion Mitchell Morrison who was born on 26th May, 1907 at Winterset,Iowa, USA. He became an international icon and movie star and film maker to millions of American when everybody underestimated him. He came West with his family in 1914, and pretty soon was being called “Duke” by everyone who knew him, He started his  carer at local films when he lost his football scholarship as a result of body-surfing accident. His first big role was in The Big Trail(1930). During this production, studio executives gave Morrison a new name in the hopes of making him an easier sell to film audiences, and he readily accepted the moniker “John Wayne,” saying it was OK with him if the people paying his salary wanted to spruce up his name. He got many lead role throughout 1930 and mostly in western genre. He developed over this period his signature walk, a fist-fighting style, wardrobe preferences, and performed many of his own stunts. Then, in 1939, John Ford gave him his big break as the Ringo Kid in the classic film, “Stagecoach.” Wayne’s performance made him a star for good, and earned Ford an Academy Award nomination for Best Director.Wayne’s greatest legacy was his dying wish, which was that his family and supporters use his name and likeness to help the doctors fight cancer and it lead to the creation of John Wayne Cancer Foundation in 1985. He died on 11th June, 1979.

John's mother was Mary Alberta and father Clyde Leonard Morrison was pharmacist. He was of English, Ulster-Scots, and Irish ancestry. He was Catholic. All his three wives were raised Catholic and his children were raised in Church. The Catholic Faith surrounded John Wayne all of his adult life. He often complained that he was up to his neck in Catholics. Despite his early upbringing in the Presbyterian Church, Duke never had any denominational loyalty and was impatient with the infighting of Christianity.

John Wayne Political Views

John Wayne was a conservative Republican and used to support anti communist posts. In his early age he was a supporter of Republican Party and Voted for President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1936 elections. He followed Roosevelt's successors and followed President Harry S  Truman. He was the co creator of Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals in 1944  and became president of organization in 1949. He voted for John F Kennedy and called it a patriotic move.

John had three wives in his iconic lifetime. His first wife was Josephine Alicia Saenz . They married in 1933. They got four children. In 1945 they got divorced. Then on vacation Wayne met his second wife Esperanza Baur. Their marriage was volatile and Esperanza was jealous of Wayne's love to his former four children. This couple didn't have any child..Then he married actress Pilar Wayne in 1954 and couple had 3 children. She was with him till his death.

John was master mason. He was an American icon. he was legendary in every role and he is an inspiration for every Hollywood star. 

Interesting Facts

He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
His favorite drink was Sauza Commemorativo Tequila, and he often served it with ice that he had chipped from an iceberg during one of his voyages on his yacht, "The Wild Goose".
In 1973 he was awarded the Gold Medal from the National Football Foundation for his days playing football for Glendale High School and USC.
John is the grandfather of actor Brendan Wayne. 
He addressed the Republican National Convention on its opening day in 1968.
