Steven Soderbergh



Steven Andrew Soderbergh was born on the 14th of January 1963. He is an American film producer, director, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor famous for directing movies like Erin Brokovich 2000, Traffic 2000, Contagion 2011 and Magic Mike 2012. He has also edited well known movies like The Psycho, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Social Network. He also produced the indie drama Sex, Lies and Videotape 1989 which won him the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival making the 26 year old Steven the youngest director to win the festival’s top award. Steven is currently working on his film Logan Lucky, set to release in August 2017 starring Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum and Riley Keough.

Steven has mentioned before in an interview that he does not believe in god. Apart from this he has never said anything about the religion or faith that he belongs to. From all that is said on the news and tabloids about Steven, it is apparent that he is an atheist. His ancestry is Swedish and Irish. His maternal grandparents were Italian immigrants.

Steven is not a Liberal as he did once peak about how Liberal has become a dirty word in America that once changed the world for the better but over the years has become a label that can tar people and their ideas. He thinks that politics in America has is mostly fear based and that is not how the people who drew the constitution would want it.

Who is he/she dating?

Steven is married to Jules Asner, a television personality who also influences the female characters in his movies. She was married to Mathew Asner before she got married to Steven in 2003. Steven was also married to Betsy Brantley from 1989 to 2004. Steven has a daughter with Betsy. 


Steven Soderbergh Hobbies


Making movies, directing, editing and writing movies is the only hobby that Steven indulges in, even in his free time. Watching movies made by other directors in order to learn more and also reading books that inspire him to make better movies in Hollywood.

Interesting Facts

He was one of the members of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003.

He directed short Super 8mm Films borrowing equipment from the LSU students.

He is currently making the next Oceans movie Oceans Eight set to release in 2018.


He was elected first vice president of the Directors Guild of America in March 2002.
